FAQ
Q: What Expert Witness services can you provide?
A: We offer a range of expert witness and consulting services related to the technical systems found in custom & luxury homes and commercial settings like offices and conference rooms, also private aircraft and yachts. See our “Practice Areas” and “Gallery” pages for details. We also provide litigation support in the form of custom courtroom exhibits and evidence presentation systems to help you win your case.
Q: How does it work? What is the process?
A: After the initial interview (the free consultation), if you choose to engage us, we’ll sign a simple agreement, get a retainer, then create a strategy to diagnose and/or document the problem. We’ll also determine a budget and timeframe, then decide if reports are required and what level of detail is necessary.
We’re easy to work with and know how to do our end of the process so you don’t have to. Also – our specialty is making complex technical subjects simple to understand for litigants, opposing counsel and juries. Cases can often be made clear, such that a settlement is possible without litigation.
Q: Are you local? What areas do you cover?
A: We are located in Los Angeles but have projects across the U.S. and in Europe. We are happy and in many cases need to travel to the actual problem site for a detailed inspection, take measurements, photos, etc.
Q: What are your rates, experience and qualifications?
A: Rates depend on the type of service we provide and whether you book us directly or through an agency. We can charge hourly or by the project and are happy to work with you. We like to charge based on value received and we don’t “nickel and dime” you. Please see our “About/CV/Rates” page for detailed information and download our CV. And do not hesitate to request a quote.
Q: What is your turnaround time?
A: This depends on the size and nature of the project but we will turn your case around as rapidly as you need it done.
Q: Can I get a free consultation and evaluation of my case?
A: Of course! In fact we have resolved several cases during the initial consultation and no fee was charged.
Q: Do you offer a guarantee?
A: Yes, to a point. Obviously we can’t guarantee the outcome of your case. But if you are genuinely dissatisfied with our work (which has never happened), we offer a full refund of all fees paid, less the initial deposit and any used travel, expenses, etc.
Due to the nature of this business which can be highly subjective, we encourage you to decide in advance if our experience, qualifications and services suit your requirements.

$1MM in Crestron (not) Damaged – Tiberon, CA
We helped defend a roofing contractor who was sued for a roof leak which the homeowner claimed damaged over one million dollars’ worth of Crestron control system and other equipment. Wrongful Death by TV – Santa Barbara, CA
A wrongful death case where we identified the actual problem components involved in a TV lift system that killed an unsuspecting handyman.
Lux Condo Fire – Philadelphia, PA
We identified the actual cause of a fire related to low-voltage equipment contained inside a piece of custom furniture. Settled out of court.
Decimator Trademark Case, FL
We helped an equipment manufacturer prevail in a trademark case where there was a conflict between similar product names. Settled privately.
Lightning Damage, Philadelphia, PA
We had to give the bad news to the low voltage vendor’s insurance company that because the vendor failed to add lightning protection that had been agreed upon, that they were liable for at least some of the damage. Note that sometimes our job is to help the parties understand the extent of their damages.
Mangled Finger – San Bernardino Sheriff’s Department
When an on-duty sheriff’s deputy was injured by an improperly installed gate access keypad, our experience helped the plaintiff/victim recover personal injury damages.
$500k in Crestron, Lutron & TVs and it Never Worked! – Newport Beach, CA
A well-designed but poorly installed high end home entertainment, lighting & automation system in a $7.5MM home was thwarted when the Crestron program that runs the system had 7,500 error messages and never worked properly. The homeowner got the entire system replaced under the vendor’s insurance policy. Settled out of court.
Noisy Gym in West Los Angeles
